4-3

I will probably be threatened if I don’t soon note Todd K’s win last weekend. While he was preparing for a surprise party for his wife, we took a break for a game of pong. I didn’t have much time either so I declared it “one game, winner take all.” Todd won. Then later reminded me a couple of times that since I’d said it was winner take all, it counted as an entire match. So the competition for Mr October is close at 4-3, my advantage. The Post, Hasten The Homecoming

[This review appeared in Popshot.]

The Post have a way with the space of their music which has been sorely lacking since the new wave days of the early 1980s. Maybe it’s the Bauhaus cum Joy Division moans coming from singer, Oliver Boch that bring the 80s to mind, but The Post offer a roomy recording that is most un-contemporary. The bass, drums and guitar find separate frequencies to inhabit and allow the keyboards and extra percussion to settle in different places. Bass lines will take off from drum beats and vice versa. You’ll be following one and find yourself hypnotized by the other.

Ouch…

I played Todd K yesterday and won 3-1 making the series 3-2 in my favor.

Tonight I beat Todd K 3-1, increasing my lead to 4-2. I also matched up against Todd’s sister Erin and easily defeated her in the only game we played. She claimed she had to leave. (continue reading…)

1-2

In ongoing pong news, I would be remiss if I didn’t note that last week I lost to Todd K 3-2, making the October series 1-2. This week I beat him 3-0, tying the quest for Mr October at 2-2.

Beer commercials, etc

I spent yesterday afternoon in No Budget Studio with Dean and Ryan. We got a pretty hard rockin’ tune tracked. It’s unofficially titled “Won’t Stop Fighting.” When Ryan arrived he said it sounded like “a beer commercial” which is exactly what I was going for. (continue reading…)

It’s On

The official competition for Mr October began tonight with some take-no-prisoners ping-pong at Mr K’s house. I dominated the first series, cleaning up 3-0. Though the last game was a fight to the end. Then the fight really began in the second series. Todd K was the victor though at 3-2. So if you’re keeping score, the month stands at 1-1.

Mr. Drunk-tober

I barely beat Andy W 21-19. The real defeat was mine. Andy’d had quite a bit to drink before we played. I was up 20-14 and he won the next 5 points. I only won the game when he served into the net. Cheap victory. I beat Todd in two games, but, as we didn’t complete a “best of 5″ series, I was told that my wins were unofficial. So the competition for Mr October hasn’t yet (officially) begun.
