Capitalist Chicks

The Capitalist Chicks, Debbie and Tara, run capitalistchicks.com.

What is capitalistchicks.com?

It’s a way for us to show that the stereotypical capitalist, in general, is false. Most people perceive capitalism as statism and have no idea what the concept of pure capitalism is. This is especially true for the younger generation. We hope to change this through knowledge.

What knowledge?

The distinction between Statism and Capitalism. Capitalism is free and open trade between individuals, not government imposed and regulated trade with corporate welfare.

What made you think… “Okay let’s do a website”?

It’s the easiest way to reach a large audience with relatively no hassle. That…and I’m geek, it’s in my blood to do websites. Living on the Left Coast we see a lot of misinformed youths screaming for anarchy and the downfall of Capitalism while enjoying it’s many benefits. We felt a website would be the best form of media to represent our viewpoints to that generation.

What’s the reaction been like? Any negative feedback?

We’ve received a lot of positive feedback from the Internet in general. Just your typical socialist whiplash but nothing more than a few annoyances.

I think it’s easy for people so focused and surrounded by an ideology to dismiss other ideologies with curt terminology. In other words, it’s easy for you to say “socialist whiplash”, but what do you mean? What’s wrong with socialism?

What’s wrong with suicide?

That’s a cute answer, but I’d say sometimes there’s nothing wrong with suicide.

That’s true, if it is your own choice. In socialism your life is not your own, you are the property of the state and common good, which may dictate your life, your mind and the product of your work. Capitalism, on the other hand, is based on the recognition of individual rights. In a capitalist society men are free to deal with one another according to their own free will and judgements. Socialism is no more than a form of slavery. Socialists portray it for a good cause, but is good slavery any different than bad slavery?

Isn’t “slavery” being a little dramatic? The US is a democracy. Each person has a vote. If the majority wants the government to do something isn’t that its right? Let’s take Health Care for instance. In a purely capitalist system, only rich people would have health care. We have an epidemic in this country right now: millions have no health care. Don’t we need a socialist solution to this problem? And doesn’t the majority have the right to health care if it votes for it?

True, slavery does require the use or threat of physical force, which we don’t have in the United States. I was using the term metaphorically. We do not see the excessive use of force by the government here in the USA. That force can be seen in the socialist regimes and dictatorships. But, we are fast approaching statism here. Yes, let’s take Health Care, for an example. The health care system has been deteriorating rapidly. Take note, however, that it’s deterioration goes hand in hand with government regulation, mandates, and controls. We don’t need a socialist solution to this problem. We need to give back control to the patients and doctors. When you say a “right” to health care, what do you mean? I think people use the term “right” too loosely. A “right” presupposes that it is self-evident and does not require the taking away from anyone else. When you mandate a right to “free” medical [care] you tend to forget somebody: the doctor. Am I rambling on now?

May I also remark on your comment about “if the majority votes for it, that it has a right to it?” We are not a pure democratic system: we are a republic. If the majority votes to exterminate a particular race, does that mean it should be allowed?

Thank you for bringing up the answer I have always been too slow to retort to my socialist friends. So anyway, I’ll stop pretending to be a commie. Tara, you’re 19, shouldn’t you be throwing bricks through Starbucks windows (when you’re not drinking their coffee) to protest all the awful things capitalism does? What got you interested in capitalism?

I respect and understand the values of capitalism due to the fact that I have an extraordinary mom. I was born when my mom was 18. Instead of relying on the governmental system of welfare, she worked her butt off at three jobs to succeed in life and get to where she is now. Don’t call her lucky! This couldn’t help but influence me to respect hard work and the ideals of a capitalistic society where anyone can get ahead in life. People continually comment on how ‘lucky’ my mom and I are.

You’ve probably seen it up close, so why do you think capitalism gets such a bad rap? What do capitalists need to do to improve their image?

We are seeing less and less pure capitalism, and more government regulation and intervention (AKA: statism). People look at giant corporations getting all kinds of government kickbacks and handouts. It is the class warfare mentality: us against the big guy. So many times I hear commentary which classifies “the rich” and “the working class”. This implies that the rich do not work? What capitalists need to do to improve their image is simple: get across the fact that wealth is created. Too many people see wealth as a stagnant, fixed pot of money that gets passed amongst the elite. The ole pie theory. People see the rich as taking all of pie but never realize that there is more than one pie and the ones baking all the pies are the ones getting rich.

This is what needs to change. Socialists tend to think that if we’d just divide up the pie equally all would be well. Not so. Eventually, nobody would be baking anymore! We need producers, and capitalism allows us to freely produce and exchange, creating more and more wealth.

Two-parter:

Your website, at least on the finance page, targets women specifically. Do you think women more so than men don’t understand capitalism?

The so-called “soccer moms” tend to gravitate to anti-capitalist Democrats like Clinton and Gore — politicians who may pay lip-service to capitalism but do everything in their power to limit and control the free-market. What do you think women need to know about capitalism?

To answer your first question:
I think the majority of women prefer not to deal with long term finances, planning or economics. This has historically been a man’s role but that also has been changing. More women in the work force is partly driving this. I don’t think that it is a matter of them not ‘understanding’ it so much as not being interested in it.

Second question;
First off, some clarification. It is not only the Democrats who wish to control and limit the free market. Republicans do their fair share of manipulation, while supposedly claiming to be champions of capitalism. Neither side grasps the moral concepts of free trade and probably never will. But I digress.

What I think women need to know about capitalism is no different than what I think men should know about capitalism. Capitalism and finance go hand in hand. Unfortunately, men seem to be ahead of the game in that department. I see so many women terrified of making financial decisions. They can make day to day decisions and balance the checkbook, but ask them about their stock portfolio, retirement plans, or long term investing in general, and they just say oh, I don’t know about any of that stuff: it’s too hard to understand. You can’t uphold capitalism without first upholding the wonders of producing and money management. We need to take away the fear factor. Knowledge is power!

Two more questions in the interview:

What do you hope to do with capitalistchicks.com? What are your future plans?

We hope to inform and educate. We hope to target a younger generation and help put to rest the Ebenezer Scrooge stereotype of today’s capitalists.

We both work full time ‘real jobs’, and the site is pretty much run day to day as we can manage, but we do hold it in great value, regardless. Long term- we would like to expand in our marketing and involve our viewers more directly.

On February 24th, the Andrew Lewis radio show ( www.alshow.com ) will be highlighting our website and handing out some of our fine capitalist items. Also, The Big Money ( www.thebigmoney.com ) in New York, will be doing likewise. Local radio show KVI ( www.kvi.com ) expresses interest in promoting our site as well. So, slowly but surely, we are expanding our marketing and site. Check back in a week for updated site including a photo gallery, a new capitalist next door, and products.

Last question: So was capitalistbroads.com already taken?

Well, we just thought chicks went a bit better. Now there is a counter to the capitalist pigs. Pigs and chicks, get it?
